Dot NAME Domain Names

Introduced in 2001, the .NAME generic TLD is the sole TLD planned for personal web pages only. These domains can consist of personal or fictional names, aliases and/or other titles people are famous by. At first, only 3rd-level registrations were permitted, so if you wished to register john.doe.name, you were required to do that under .doe.name. In 2004, however, the registration process was loosened and second-level registrations were also permitted. Already registered 3rd-level domain names remained functional.
